Major Search for Missing Ferry Passenger in Solent, U.K.

Solent Coastguard has launched a major air and sea search in the Solent for man believed to be missing from a Cowes to Southampton passenger ferry.

At 1am Solent Coastguard were contacted by the operators of the passenger ferry Red Falcon who had been unable to find a male foot passenger who did not disembark at Southampton from the 11.30pm sailing. Cars and foot passengers are counted on and off the ferry and this man had been the only foot passenger embarking at Cowes. Following an extensive search of the vessel by crew, belongings of the man were found on the upper deck.

Solent Coastguard immediately scrambled the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter whiskey Bravo. The Calshot, Lymington and Yarmouth RNLI life boats and the Cowes Independent lifeboat are searching the water through the Solent.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge, Ryde, Southampton and the Needles are searching the shoreline. All vessels transiting the area have been advised to keep a sharp look out.

The missing man is 42 years old from Southampton.
