Malawi And the United States Launch African Women Entrepreneurship Program

Malawi USA PartnershipMalawi in collaboration with the United States government on Tuesday launched the African Women Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) to allow greater participation and empower women entrepreneurs economically.

US Ambassador to Malawi, Jeanine Jackson said in the capital Lilongwe during the launch that the program will help women in the country have business opportunities, identification of markets, financing and training among others.

"Women who have business skills and creative products can find market in the US and other countries within the continent and outside" she said.

Secretary for Gender and Women, Children and Community Development, Mary Shawa said government will fully support the initiative.

"This initiative complements government’s economic recovery plan which has women empowerment," she said.

AWEP was launched in 2010 in US to help improve the participation of women in entrepreneurship and empower them economically.
