March 20, 2008
Gabon and Mali have decided to remove visa requirements for the holders of diplomatic passports of their respective countries, APA learnt Wednesday from a source close to the Gabonese Foreign Affairs ministry.
The head of the Gabonese diplomacy Laure Olga Gondjout and her Malian counterpart, Moctar Ouane, signed the agreement Tuesday in Libreville.
In addition to the lifting of visa requirements, two other important agreements were also signed mainly on judicial extradition and the management of forests and protected areas.
The signing of these various agreements is the result of the first Joint Gabon-Mali Committee held in March 2005 in Bamako, the Malian capital.
Libreville and Bamako maintain multi-sectional relations for many years, it is noted.
This bilateral co-operation results in the presence of many Malian teachers in high schools and colleges in Gabon.
For its part, Gabon sends students to the major Malian schools and universities.
as well as this official aspect, hundreds of Malian nationals operate as small traders in Libreville as well as inside the country.
According to the Malian chancellery in Libreville, the Malian community established in Gabon is estimated at over 8,000 people.
