Mauritania and The Gambia have agreed that Nouakchott will export cattle and meat to Banjul. A memorandum officialising this agreement was signed on Tuesday in Nouakchott, on the Gambian side by Trade, Regional Integration and Employment Minister, Yusupha Kah and Agriculture Deputy Minister, Khalifa Kambi and on the Mauritanian side by the Minister of Trade, Craft Industry and Tourism, Bamba Ould Dermane, and the Minister of Rural Development, Brahim Ould M’Bareck Ould Mohamed El Moctar.
The Gambian delegation, which stayed in Mauritania from August 21 to 24, has expressed its desire to buy meat from Mauritania, on a “stable and regular basis.”
An urgent order has been made for the upcoming religious events, and a first batch of cattle will be delivered to the Gambia latest on September 3rd.
The Mauritanian National Import-Export Company (SONIMEX) and the Gambian Cattle Marketing Agency, which have signed a contract for the exports of hundreds of large cattle, will implement the agreement between the two countries.
