Mauritanian President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi on Tuesday appointed a new Prime Minister, Yahya Ould Ahmed El Waghev, who was previously minister and Chief Presidential Secretary.
Outgoing Premier Zein Ould Zeidane resigned Tuesday evening after an audience at the Nouakchott-based State House, a presidential release disclosed.
The document pointed out that “the Head of State accepted the resignation” and expressed “gratitude to the Prime Minister and his cabinet for the efforts and work accomplished”.
The New Prime Minister also leads the ADIL party, which includes independents who supported Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi to victory in the March 2007 elections.
His predecessor, on his part, transferred his votes to the incumbent Head of State, after ranking 3rd with 15% of votes, behind Ould Cheikh Abdallahi (22%) and Ahmed Ould Daddah (10%).
