Nigeria’s Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, says the recently completed geophysical airborne survey of Nigeria has shown new mineral deposits.
Alison-Madueke told journalists in Abuja on Wednesday that the minerals found in all the zones in Nigeria would soon be announced after the ongoing interpretation of the survey.
It would be recalled that the ministry, through the assistance of the World Bank embarked on the survey, covering 44 percent in phase one and 56 percent in phase two.
Allison-Madueke said that the ministry had also completed the magnetic airborne survey of the country, “which proposes further geophysical surveys on electromagnetic and seismic refraction.”
According to her, the government will continue to generate new geosciences data to facilitate private sector investment.
She said that the new investment-friendly legislation and policy enshrined in the 2007 Mines and Minerals Act and the Nigeria metals policy were already attracting investors to the sector.
Available reports show that each state of Nigeria has three or more mineral resources of the over 40 mineral types, while seven have been identified as having more economic viability.
The seven strategic minerals include bitumen, coal, barite, gold, limestone, iron ore and lead/zinc.
