Mithya Completes 50 Days At the Box Office!

April 7, 2008

Rajat Kapoor’s Mithya which had opened to fantastic reviews completed its 50 day run at the theaters last week. It has been one of the rare films that have been appreciated by critics and the audience alike! It has also been seen as evidence that quality, out-of-the-box entertainers have a sizable audience. In trade circles, the film is believed to be a hit!

A pleased director Rajat Kapoor said that “for a script that had to go around looking for money for about 9 years, a script that everyone thought was too dark- for Mithya then, to do a respectable 50 days is really heartwarming for me. It is a sign of the changing times…and I would like to raise a toast to our audience. They have been told too often in the past that we make this rubbish for you because you like this rubbish. The audience now has a chance to sit up and reject the rubbish. And I would like to thank everyone who liked the film or supported the film- Thank you.”

A comic thriller based on the underworld and directed by noted actor and director, Rajat Kapoor, Mithya’s star cast includes Ranvir Shorey, Naseerudin Shah, Vinay Pathak, Neha Dhupia and Saurabh Shukla. Rajat has earlier directed Mixed Doubles and Raghu Romeo and the last venture that Rajat, Ranvir and Vinay collaborated on was Bheja Fry.

Speaking on the success of the film, Puneet Johar, MD, Tangerine Digital Entertainment, the company holding its worldwide rights, said “We are thrilled that Mithya has done well, both at the box office as well as critically and would like to thank all our partners who have helped make our first endeavor a success. Our effort going forward is to build on this momentum and present more innovative and entertaining content!”

Adds Mr. Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee, CEO, Planman Motion Pictures, “Mithya’s completion of50 days is reassuring. We were always confident about the film and hence made all the efforts to reach out as wide as it was possible with it. Am really delighted however that audiences and critics alike have all appreciated the film. It reiterates our belief that good content works.”
