More Than 50 People Arrested in Sierra Leone Over Drugs Aircraft

The Sierra Leone police have arrested 58 people in connection with the landing on Sunday of a small aircraft at Lungi International Airport in Freetown with a cargo of 700 kilograms of cocaine.
Speaking to journalists during a press briefing in Freetown on Tuesday, the Deputy Inspector General, Oliver Somassa said those arrested include Sierra Leoneans, Nigerians, Americans, Colombians, Mexicans and Brazilians. The Sierra Leoneans, he said included airport personnel and police officers. He said the suspects are detained at the Pademba Road maximum security prison in Freetown.
Somassa however said the investigations were continuing and there were likely to be more arrests.
Meanwhile, the aircraft, which was said to have originated from Venezuela, was also said to bear the Red Cross emblem, is still at the airport under heavy security.
