The summit of the African Union (AU) scheduled from January 31st to February 2nd in Addis Ababa, will be highlighted by the launch of the new flag of the pan-African organization, the Secretary of the African Union Commission, Jean Mfasoni, disclosed on Monday in Addis Ababa.
The decision was made during the last Summit held last July in Syrte, Libya, Mfasoni recalled.
The process to provide the AU with a new flag was accelerated under the aegis of the current Commission President Jean Ping. Five of the 116 proposals received had been selected to redesign the colors of the pan-African flag.
Other parallel activities listed on the agenda of the AU summit also include the delivery of the Flame of Peace to African leaders who are going to take it home as a symbol of their commitment to promote peace on the continent.
During the summit, two African prize winners will also be given officially continental scientific Awards.
