New ANC Women’s League President Elected
July 7, 2008
The new executive of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) was elected today with Gauteng education MEC Angie Motshekga being declared the new president of the league. The new women’s league president and her executive are close Jacob Zuma allies.
In a statement, ANCWL said the race was contested between League secretary general Bathabile Dlamini and Motshekga.
“Motshekga won with 1826 votes,” ANCWYL said.
Motshekga is expected to give her acceptance speech late Sunday, the last day of the Women’s League conference in Bloemfontein in the Free State province.
The four-day conference started on Thursday and ends late Sunday.
Nosiphiwo Mwambi from the Western Cape was elected as the new deputy president, Sisisi Tolashe as secretary general, Mpai Mogori as deputy secretary-general and Hlengiwe Mkhize as treasurer.
The women’s league conference has reaffirmed Jacob Zuma’s hold on the ANC, its your league and women’s league as all the new leaders in these organizations are his close allies who have been sidelined by President Thabo Mbeki in government and in the ANC.
