DR Congo’s President Joseph Kabila Friday appointed Adolphe Muzito as Prime Minister to replace Antoine Gizenga who resigned on September 25 for personal reasons with regards to his age.

The new Congolese Prime Minister is an executive of the “Parti Lumumbiste Uni” (PALU), led by former PM Gizenga himself.

Holder of a Bachelor in economics from the University of Kinshasa, Muzito was the Budget Minister in the former government. He had formerly served as auditor general.

The choice over Muzito is in line with the agreements Joseph Kabila, Antoine Gizenga and François Mobutu Nzanga signed on September 30, 2006 shortly before the presidential run-off.

According to the terms of the deal, PALU was to take the Prime Minister’s office, while the majority presidential rally (AMP), comprising parties supporting Joseph Kabila, was to take the State House.
