New Zimbabwe Airline to Fly to 23 African, Long-haul Destinations
March 26, 2008
A new Zimbabwe airline has applied for a license to provide passenger, charter and cargo services to 24 African and international destinations.
Air Pfunwa Airlines has applied to Zimbabwe’s Air Services Board for a license to fly to Angola, Australia, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dubai, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Qatar, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and Zambia.
The airline promoters said Zimbabwe’s new aviation player would also carry passengers to domestic destinations where it would offer competition to the national carrier, Air Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has had only one airline since the demise of the privately owned Zimbabwe Express Airways about eight years ago.
The entry of the new airline comes at a time the southern African country has been deserted by major international airlines due to the collapse of its once vibrant tourism sector.
