125px-Flag_of_Nigeria.svg-Copy15Nigeria’s Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered security agencies to investigate alleged involvement of a Nigerian in an attempt to blow up an American passenger plane.

The 23-year-old Nigerian, Umar Faruk Abdulmutallab, believed to be the son of a prominent Nigerian businessman and former banker, was alleged to have boarded a plane from Nigeria to Amsterdam from where he connected an American Delta airliner to Detroit in the United States.

Abdulmutallab was said to have been overpowered by passengers and cabin crew when he tried to blow up the plane with a device he tied to his leg with some liquid as the plane was landing in the US.
