Nigeria’s Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) has put in place an e-loading device to monitor the movement of trucks from depots to filling stations to reduce smuggling of petroleum products.
PEF Executive Secretary Adefunke Kasali said that the development was to ensure that the processing and movement of trucks are carried out efficiently and fast, thereby reducing the incidence of truck diversion.
“The principle of the monitoring we have put in place is to track down the details of truck’s movement from Point A to B. This includes information on the truck, its content, the driver and point of destination.
Kasali added that the monitoring device is a network which records movement from the loading depot through the server, and connects to the galaxy server with a feedback mechanism.
She said that a lot of marketers were indebted to the fund and urged them to settle their bills.
The fund was established in 1975 to equalize the cost of transporting petroleum products from products’ depots to filling stations, in a bid to ensure that petroleum products were made available at uniform prices throughout Nigeria.
It is also charged with the responsibility of ensuring that marketing companies comply with the law regarding the management of the transportation of equalization process.
