125px-Flag_of_Nigeria.svg-CopyNigeria’s Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has created two committees, the “Federal Projects Assessment Committee” and the “Monitoring Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)”.

The project committee would assess and provide necessary information on the status of on-going government’s projects in the country.

A statement by Mr. Ima Niboro, Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the Acting President, said the Committee had three months to complete its assignment and submit a report.

The terms of reference of the Committee included taking inventory of all on-going projects as well as an assessment of the level of funding of each of them.

The Committee is also to undertake a physical inspection of each project, to determine the level of work done and to ascertain whether it is commensurate to the amount paid to the contractors.

It is also to evaluate the professional competence of the contractors handling the various projects and determine whether the level of execution of the projects is in accordance with the terms of the contract agreement between the Federal Government and the contractor.

The committee will also examine a plan of action that is realistic, practical and achievable including implementation phases for the execution of the projects.

It is also to make appropriate recommendations to the government on how to fast-track the completion of the projects.

Meanwhile, a 10-member Presidential Monitoring Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was also constituted for effective and easier management of the commission.

Niboro said that the re-constitution was in accordance with Section 21(i) of the NDDC Act which empowers the President to appoint members of the Presidential Monitoring Committee on NDDC.
