nigeria5Nigeria’s Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians of the provision of a stable power supply in the country.

Jonathan, who gave the assurance at the ongoing 10th Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) conference in Abuja, said that the issue of electricity supply in Nigeria had been in the front burner, noting that the government was ensuring that adequate measures were put in place to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“The government has given power supply urgent priority.

“Nigerians cannot continue to suffer electricity outages any longer in this country, we have what it takes to generate electricity but few individuals are in the habit of pipelines vandalism,’’ he said.

He added that it was high time drastic measures were taken on the power sector because Nigerians could no long afford to be in darkness.

Jonathan applauded the organizers of the forum, saying that it started in 2000 when few Nigerians in the oil and gas sector came together to find lasting solutions to the nation’s energy crisis.

He charged the legislature to fast-track the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to address the lingering crisis in the Niger Delta.
