The Nigeria police force has said that it is investigating 138 suspects in connection with the recent sectarian crisis in Jos, Plateau State which claimed more than 300 lives.
Mr. Yemi Ajayi, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, said the suspects were brought from the Plateau State command for further investigation as well as to decongest police cells in the state.
“It is now that we want to tell Nigerians that presently, as we speak we have 138 suspects with us in Abuja.
“Information we have received from Jos is that we still have others coming, and so far we have 138 of them,” Ajayi said.
According to him, the suspects will be charged in accordance with their offenses, after interrogation.
“It is through investigations, enquiry and things like that which will reveal individual’s involvement.”
Meanwhile, customers on Tuesday in Jos besieged banks to make withdrawals after a week of temporary closure of the banks following the violent clashes.
The banks were shut on January 18, because of the crisis which engulfed parts of the city on January 17.
The banks had a massive influx of customers who were subjected to screening, including the use of metal detectors, a situation that caused delay in transactions.
