The National Association of the Yoruba Descendants of Nigeria has embarked on registration for free winter classes to be provided for Junior Certificates and Cambridge Overseas School Certificates students at Lesotho College of Education starting from next week on Monday.
The chairperson of the association in Lesotho, Adebesi Thompson, said the purpose of this gesture was to help students around the capital Maseru who cannot afford to pay for winter classes, adding that the move was part of the association’s mandate of contributing to Lesotho’s development.
“The criteria to pick candidates are based on first-come-first-serve basis as we expect not more than 100 students,” he said.
He pointed out that they would teach mathematics, accounts, sciences and English, adding that the plan was to host the event as an annual programme and expand the coverage to three other districts from next year.
The National Association of Yoruba People in Lesotho was launched on 17 April this year, and its purpose is to promote unity, protect the interest of Yorubas and project a good image of the Nigerian society.
There are 100 members of the Yoruba descendants in Lesotho.
