Nine Prisoners Linked to Casablanca Terrorist Attacks Escape

April 7, 2008

Nine prisoners linked to the 16 May 2003 terrorist attacks in Casablanca escaped from the prison of Kenitra (near Rabat), the Moroccan justice ministry revealed on Monday.

The escape was noticed Monday morning, the same source said, providing neither explanation nor details on the conditions of this escape.

It however pointed out that so far “all measures were being taken” to find the prisoners and determine the responsibilities.

According to the Moroccan ministry, teams of investigators went to the prison.

The terrorist attacks on Casablanca caused 45 deaths including 12 suicide bombers. Since then, the Moroccan authorities have foiled around fifty terrorist attempts.
