The wreckage of the ill-fated Wings Airline aircraft was found on Sunday evening at Igabu village in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State in south-east Nigeria.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren, said in a statement in Lagos on Sunday that the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) had established that three crew members including the Captain, First Officer and a Marketing Executive, died in the crash.
Earlier, Captain Nogie Meggison, Managing Director, Wings Aviation, said that the wreckage of the aircraft was speculated to be at Iyalla or Abakaliki in Ebonyi state.
In a statement in Lagos, Meggison said that the “exact identification of the crash site” could not be confirmed, adding, “the AIB is yet to say its exact location.”
Meanwhile, AIB and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority officials have collated relevant documents of the airline ahead of the commencement of investigation.
A Beechcraft 1900 aircraft with three crew members on board was declared missing hours after it should have landed at Nigeria’s new resort city of Obudu in southeastern Cross River state.
The aircraft took off from Lagos early on Saturday and was not at its destination hours after it was expected to land at Obudu.
