Obama “phenomenon” is Interesting for the World, Says Senegalese President

June 6, 2008

Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade said the “Barack Obama phenomenon” is extremely interesting for the United States and the world, on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of an international meeting on climate change in Dakar.

According to him, it is “a change of mentalities” in America, adding that Obama is before anything else, an American citizen.

He also averred that the United States is solving an issue which Europe is even yet to address, because Europe stands up against the entry of Africans into Europe.”

“He is not the only one with foreign roots. You have Irish, French and Germans. They are all Americans,” he said.

“I think the fact that today Whites can choose a Black as candidate is a change of mentalities in the United States,” the president of Senegal underlined.

According to him, the whole world should keep a close watch to what is happening there (USA).
