125px-Flag_of_Guinea.svg1The Forum of the ‘Forces Vives’ (civil society coalition ) of Guinea, which gathers the main political parties, Unions, and civil society organizations rejecting any candidacy of the military for the country’s upcoming elections, has condemned the recent violence and calls for the formation of a transitional government

In a statement copied to APA on Sunday, the Forum expressed its ‘serious concerns’ about the situation prevailing in Guinea and urges the national Council for Democracy and Development (CNDD) to step down to allow the formation of a new transitional authority.

According to the coalition, the new provisional authority will be the result of a broad consensus involving all representatives of the country’s society, with the defense and security forces ensuring peace and stability in the country.

The opposition urged the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to ‘quickly’ intervene in order to ensure a ‘smooth’ evolution of the country’s political situation.

“The Forum insists on the necessity to shed light on the 28 September 2009 massacres. It reaffirms its support for the UN International Inquiry Commission and looks forwards to its conclusions”, the statement added.

The head of the military junta ruling Guinea since 23 December 2008 after its bloodless coup was on Friday evacuated to Morocco for treatment. On Thursday, Captain Moussa Dadis Camara was shot by his aide-de-camp, Lieutenant Aboubacar Toumba Diakite, who is reportedly holed up somewhere in the capital with some of his collaborators.
