Organization of American States Leaders Express Appreciation for Efforts of MINUSTAH Head in Haiti
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, together with the Chair of the Group of Friends of Haiti and the Haiti Task Force, Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin, have expressed their sincere appreciation to the Special Representative of the United Nations to Haiti, Head of MINUSTAH Ambassador Mariano Fernández, for his tireless efforts to support the government and people of Haiti.
Through his leadership, Ambassador Fernández has reflected international commitment to the stability, growth and full recovery of Haiti. The OAS has reiterated its support for MINUSTAH’s transition plan and the strengthening of Haitian authorities to continue to uphold sound democratic principles in the interest of the people of Haiti.
The OAS is looking forward to the holding of timely legislative and local elections in Haiti, and to the continuation of dialogue and cooperation among all parties involved, so that the country’s democratic processes can be strengthened.
