Hundreds of local and international pilgrims have started arriving at the Uganda martyrs shrine in Namugongo, near Kampala, to pay homage to over 30 Christians murdered by authorities for failing to denounce Christianity in 1886.
Every June 3, which is a gazetted public holiday in Uganda, thousands of Christians visit the shrine erected at Namugongo to remember the courageous young faithfuls murdered and burnt on the orders of the King of Buganda in central region.
Services are held at the shrine for both the Anglican and Catholic faithful, most of whom come from Tanzania and Kenya.
Kampala police has warned the pilgrims to look out for criminals selling fake currency.
Kampala police spokesman Simeo Nsubuga warned that the criminals want to take advantage of the excitement to trade in fake currency.
