Plane Crashes During Take-off At Madrid Airport

A passenger plane leaving from Madrid - Barajas Airport has crashed during take-off. At least 100 fatalities have been reported amongst those who were on the aircraft. Flight AJK 5022, operated by Spanair, was destined for Gran Canaria when it skidded off the end of the runway in good weather at 14:45 local time. At least 100 of the 160 people on board have been killed, others are being treated for injuries. Some reports indicate that as many as 140 people may have been killed

The cause is unknown, but unconfirmed reports indicate that the left engine of the MD-80 was on fire during take-off.
