Polonnaruwa Milk Products Processing Factory in Sri Lanka to Re-open 10th June

June 9, 2008

The Polonnaruwa milk products processing factory which had remained virtually closed is to get back to production with effect from June 10.

This factory which had been producing the then famous “Perakum Condensed Milk” was privatized in 1980, and gradually ceased to function.

With renewed interest in promoting local dairy farming especially in the face of the ever increasing prices of milk powder and other dairy products, the Minister of Livestock Development C.B.Ratnayake has taken steps to get the plant in operation once again.

The products will enter the market under the Milco Label, according to ministry sources.

This factory will purchase milk from dairy farmers from surroundingĀ  areas of Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Ampara, Batticaloa, and Trincomalee at a guaranteed price.
