125px-Flag_of_the_Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo.svgThe President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Joseph Kabila, has hailed the progress made as part of the ongoing peace process in his country, in his state of the nation address before the two houses of parliament held at the Palace of the People in Kinshasa.

Mr. Kabila mentioned the case of eastern DRC, mainly the two provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu where, since eleven months ago, no war has been going on.

However, he pointed out that Rwandan rebels from the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR) are present in that part of the country where they are still pursued by the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC).

Daily activities have resumed in Goma, the capital of North Kivu, as well as in rural areas where camps for displaced persons are empty, noted the head of state.

In the north-east of the DRC, the Congolese president raised the issue of Ugandan rebels from the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

Defeated by the FARDC, most of their members fled to Central African Repblic, whereas the cordon operation is going on, said Mr. Kabila.

He denounced the inter-ethnic clashes in late October in Dongo, in the province of Equator, in the north-west of the country, which resulted in the killing of about a hundred people, among them policemen.

The DRC head of state urged members of parliament and senators to work together so as to end tribalism and he hailed the support provided by the international community which helped to implement peace in DRC.
