A prominent figures from the Guinean trade union movement, Hadja Rabiatou Serah Diallo has been appointed President of the National Transitional Council, the 101 advisory body in charge of revising the Constitution and creating legal conditions to hold free and fair elections accepted by all.
The union leader was appointed by decree signed by acting President of the National Council for Democracy and Development (CNDD), General Sékouba Konaté as stated in the release read by the presidential press secretary, Mandjou Djoubaté and broadcast by the state radio.
The president of the NTC is assisted by two Vice-Presidents : The Archbishop of Conakry, Archbishop Vincent Coulibaly, also president of the Christian Council of Guinea and Elhadj Saliou Mamadou Sylla, former secretary general of the Islamic League of Guinea.
The order establishing the National Transitional Council indicates that this advisory body is composed of 101 members from all military levels, social, religious and political stakeholders, including the junta, trade unions, civil society, political parties and religious groups.
But the powers of the NTC and the remaining appointments were referred to another statement which will be released in the next few days.
With the appointment of Hadja Rabiatou Serah Diallo, the current chairman of the CNDD, Sékouba Konate seems to have put an end to the tension between the union leader and Prime Minister Jean Marie Dore, in the negotiations for the formation of the new transitional government.
Indeed, the union leader who lost the position of Prime Minister to Jean Marie Dore, conditioned her participation in a future government with her appointment as President of the NTC or head of the department in charge of organizing elections.
But Jean Marie Dore wanted Hadja Rabiatou Serah Diallo to head the Department of Energy or Social Affairs.
