Qaddafi Foundation Denies Involvement in Austrian Hostages’ Case

March 23, 2008

The International Qaddafi Foundation for Charitable Associations and Development chaired by Seif Eleslam Qaddafi, son of the Libyan leader announced that it did not undertake any efforts regarding the release of some kidnapped Austrians.

In a statement issued in Tripoli on Sunday, the foundation denied media reports which mentioned its involvement in negotiations with the kidnappers of the Austrians.

“However, while the foundation expresses its sympathy with the families of the kidnapped and it hopes that their abduction ends at the earliest time possible, but we have taken no action or efforts to contact directly and indirectly with the kidnappers,” the statement said.

The foundation added that in spite of numerous requests received by its chairman pleading for his intervention the foundation is not involved in any kind of negotiations.

The Qaddafi Foundation’s statement came as a response to reports on Sunday that its chairman Seif Eleslam was contacting the kidnappers in Mali to gain the release of the hostages.
