Qantas Airways to Commence New Services Between U.S. And Australia

March 14, 2008

Qantas Airways has announced it would operate a record 47 flights between the U.S. and Australia each week, when it commences new services to Brisbane and Sydney beginning March 27, 2008. The new services will include adding:

  • two flights per week between Los Angeles and Brisbane from March 27 and April 1;
  • one flight per week between Los Angeles and Sydney from March 30; and
  • one flight per week between Honolulu and Sydney from April 5.

Qantas Executive General Manager, Mr. John Borghetti, said the airline was strongly committed to growing its U.S. services.

This latest increase in capacity confirms our confidence in the growth potential of this important international route, Mr. Borghetti said.

The additional services will see Qantas offer a daily, non-stop service to Brisbane, said Wally R. Mariani, Qantas Airways senior executive vice president, The Americas and Pacific. These additional flights will add around 1,300 seats each week on the route, providing new travel opportunities for visitors to Australia, Mariani added.

In addition to Qantas services between the U.S. and Australia, the airline also offers customers access to an extensive network of Canadian and Mexican destinations.

With codeshare partners American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air and Mexicana, Qantas customers can connect from major destinations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Qantas also codeshares on LAN services between Sydney and Santiago, Chile, and has just announced it will commence services to South America, with flights from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Sydney. Qantas will operate these services on B747-400 aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning November 24, 2008.

Following the commencement of the new U.S. services, Qantas will offer:

  • 17 flights per week from Los Angeles to Sydney;
  • 14 flights per week from Los Angeles to Melbourne;
  • a daily flight from Los Angeles and Brisbane;
  • five flights per week from San Francisco to Sydney;
  • a daily flight from New York to Sydney, via Los Angeles; and
  • four flights per week from Honolulu to Sydney.

Further enhancing its U.S. services in October, Qantas will operate its first A380 flights between Los Angeles and Australia.
