Shelter Afrique, a Kenya-based pan-African housing finance and development institution said it has set aside over 1.5 billion Malawi Kwacha (US$10 million) to support Malawi’s housing sector in 2011.
The institution’s Managing Director Allassane Ba told APA on Wednesday that his organization wants to help increase Malawi’s visibility and profile through infrastructure.
“Although Malawi is a stakeholder and a founding member of the organization, our profile in this country is insignificant therefore we would like to make ourselves known to the public and private sectors by supporting housing projects,” he said.
He therefore challenged the financial institutions and property holders to come up with viable housing projects that could be financed by the institution.
Shelter Afrique was established in 1982 by African governments.
