The authorities in Niger have launched the tarring works of the Say-Tapoa road segment in western Niger, on the border with Burkina Faso and Benin. The 92km-long and 6m-wide road will cost CFA 12 billion, APA learned Monday from Niger’s Equipment ministry.
Funding for this route is being funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) (43%), the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) (46%) and the state of Niger (11%), the Nigerien Infrastructure minister Harouna Lamido said.
Tunisia-Burkina companies, GTIS-ATP, will do the tarring for a period of 24 months under the control of Lamco Ingenerie agency, he said.
The impact of carrying out such work are the opening of the Say division, promoting tourism, creating jobs for youth and facilitating the flow of agricultural, forestry and pastoral products to urban centers, the minister added.
The road will also secure people and property, but also promote sub-regional integration as the area shares borders with two UEMOA countries, namely Benin and Burkina Faso.
