Prince Harry, the second son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, will formally introduce his Zimbabwean fiancee to Queen Elizabeth for the first time early next week, sources said on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Prince Harry will use the wedding of his cousin, Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne (Prince Charles’ junior sister), to introduce Chelsy Davy, 22.
Chelsy has met Prince Charles and his current wife Carmilla Parker-Bowl (the Duchess of Cornwall) on many occasions.
But Prince Harry’s communications team, say “an introduction to the Queen is considered a significant step up the social ladder for a potential princess”.
The couple have been dating on and off for almost four years. For much of that period, Chelsy was based in South Africa, but last year she moved to Leeds, North-eastern England, where she is currently studying for a post-graduate law degree, while being closer to Harry.
Harry’s decision to introduce her to the Queen despite controversy about her (Chelsy) father’s links with Zimbabwean Robert Mugabe, is a sign of how seriously he takes the relationship, said one royal analyst.
Chelsy’s multi-millionaire father, Charles Davy, has been a business partner in a Safari company with Webster Shamu, a leading politician in Mugabe’s ZANU-PF government.
He is one of the few white landowners in the Southern African nation not to have been badly affected by the Mugabe land grabs virus.
