November 19, 2008
A Moscow Region police officer who has admitted to repeatedly raping his step-daughter over a period of eight years has been freed “as the girl’s neighbors have not been questioned,” Russian media reported on Tuesday.
Local prosecutors dropped the charges, shocked investigators said, “in connection with the fact that we had failed to question the girl’s neighbors.”
The officer has only been identified as Alexander K, 47.
The girl’s mother told investigators that, “It happened first in 1999. Once a week, when I was at work, he tormented Katya. I only found out about everything later when she turned 15 and she went to the gynecologist.”
When confronted, Alexander K admitted everything and moved out, giving his word not to see Katya again, and signing the house over to his wife and his step-daughter. However, when he failed to keep his word, Alla K filed a complaint with police - a year after the original confession.
However, the charges were dropped, and the police officer remains free.
When journalists from the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper tried to interview Alexander K at his new place of abode they were told that, “he has gone fishing.”
