Rwanda Shuns Hundreds of Ugandans At Border Post
May 6, 2008
Rwandan immigration officials have denied hundreds of Ugandans entry to Rwanda at Katuna border in keeping with new measures that came into force on Tuesday, APA has learned.
Rwandan officials said those affected had neither passports nor Laissez Passer documents.
Previously, Ugandans traveling to Rwanda used temporary travel permits issued at the borders but that has been discontinued after a meeting of Rwandan and Ugandan immigration officials last month.
Sources said the new measures are aimed at strengthening border security.
During the meeting, it was agreed that only people who live around the border should be allowed to use the temporary movement permits.
