A missing 5-year-old girl who prompted an extensive search involving Coastguard, Police and the Fire Brigade in Stratton in North Cornwall has now been located and is en route to hospital.

The Coastguard were contacted early this afternoon by Devon and Cornwall Police requesting their assistance in the search as it was believed that the 5-year-old girl had fallen into the River Neet at Stratton. Bude and Boscastle Coastguard Rescue Teams were immediately called to the scene, and Rescue Helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor was scrambled to begin a search. Bude RNLI lifeboat crew along with Summerleaze Beach lifeguards also attended to assist with the search.

At 14.30 the missing girl was located and winched into the RAF Helicopter and transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Falmouth Coastguard Watch Manager Andy Cattrell said:

“The missing girl was reported to Police earlier this afternoon by a family member after fears that she had entered the river. Although this was technically an inland incident we were able to offer several Coastguard resources and other rescue units in order to get as many personnel on the ground to assist the Police and Fire Brigade. The girl has now been found and has been flown directly to Derriford hospital”.
