The launch of Senegal Airlines, which was initially scheduled during the first quarter of 2010, is postponed until September 2010, reports the Senegalese daily newspaper L’AS on Tuesday.
The newspaper noted from “reliable sources” that some private Senegalese businessmen have shares in this airline company and because of that they expect the country’s authorities to pay them their due. This accounts, added the newspaper, for the Senegalese authorities’ decision to postpone the launching of the new company.
Senegal Airlines, with CFA 17 billion ($34.6 million) as seed money and held at 64% by the national private sector, is the substitute for Air Senegal International which went bankrupt.
The Senegalese government holds 31% of the start-up capital through its traffic rights and the shares of its asset-stripping such as airports in Senegal, the deposit and consignment office and the Autonomous Port of Dakar whereas 5% of the capital is ceded to the staff.
