The Eid al-Adha (Arab word) most known in Africa as Tabaski (Muslim feast of the sacrifice) will be celebrated in Senegal on Saturday 28 November. This event commemorates the submission of Abraham to God.
Abraham had accepted to immolate his son Ishmael as an act as of obedience to God. The latter asked angel Gabriel at the last moment to replace the son with a sacrificial lamb.
In memory of this total submission to God, Muslim families sacrifice a sheep, or sometimes other animals like cows and goats.
More than 670,000 sheep are expected in Senegal including 200,000 in Dakar alone, according to the Ministry of Livestock.
