Flag of the United StatesJames Anthony Rubio, 55, was arrested this week by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Bandera, TX without incident. An arrest warrant was issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety, where it is alleged that Rubio failed to comply with civil commitment requirements, failed to comply with sex offender registration, and committed a sex offense.

This Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Bandera Sheriff’s Office received information that Rubio was hiding out at a residence in Bandera, TX. Officers approached the residence and Rubio attempted to escape out of a back window. Rubio ran approximately 20 yards before being apprehended and taken into custody. Rubio was later transported to the Bandera County Jail where he is currently being held.

In April 2012, Rubio was discharged from prison after serving a 20 year sentence for sexually assaulting 4 different women, 3 of whom were in their 20’s, and the fourth was 14 years old. During these offenses, Rubio assaulted and threatened to kill his victims, and used bondage to prevent their escape. After being released from prison, Rubio cut off his ankle monitor and fled from the Travis County Residential Center in Del Valle, TX. The Texas Department of Public Safety added Rubio to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list and a $5,000 cash reward was offered for information leading to his capture.

Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, states, “This fugitive was on the run and eluded police for far too long, but through the joint efforts of state and federal law enforcement officers, another sexually violent predator no longer walks our streets.
