125px-Flag_of_the_Seychelles.svg2The American Condé Nast Traveller Magazine has voted Seychelles as the most environmentally friendly destination in its Annual Readers’ Travel Awards 2009.

Seychelles, which prides itself on environmental conservation takes the first place with an index of satisfaction of 83.61 points on a scale of 100 points.

In the overall ranking for the world’s top 100 destinations, the islands have this year reached the 30th place with Mauritius at the 42nd position. Sicily was voted as the best destination by readers.

Readers also voted Seychelles at the sixth place in the category for the best 20 islands, with Sicily occupying the 1st place followed by the Maldives.

The accommodation on North Island, one of the forty granitic islands of the Seychelles, which is located around the two main islands of Mahé and Praslin has also received a nomination that recognizes its efforts towards protecting the environment including the rehabilitation and re-introduction of many of the critically endangered Seychelles species so that visitors are able to enjoy viewing some of this endangered wildlife.

In the overall accommodation ratings for the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, North Island clinched ninth position out of 20 top hotels.

  1. Nice post. Seychelles Island is a worth visiting place. Here 115 islands are worth calling as ”Paradise on earth”. There are many islands who are unfazed by the modernization. Victoria is the capital of Seychelles this is also must visiting place. Victoria to any of the 115 islands that have something unique to offer, there are helicopters and ferries that would assist you in moving from one island to another.
