Skill Shortage a Real Concern in Scotland

July 5, 2008

Unite the union is campaigning to get the Scottish Parliament to be more pro-active with industry in addressing the skills shortage in Scotland. Unite along with the engineering construction industry training board (ECITB) and industry professionals went to the Scottish Parliament to present the skills and training charter and to encourage SMPs’ to put the skills shortage at the top of the agenda.

The demand for skills in Scotland is growing while the skilled professionals we have in Scotland is diminishing. It is now obvious to everyone connected with industry that there is a crisis looming in Scotland unless something is done about it.

John Quigley Unites regional secretary said,

“This is a sad state of affairs because Scotland has always been considered as a centre of excellence for engineering and construction expertise. Unite is determined to keep pressing all concerned to make sure the skills and training charter is kept at the top of the industrial and political agenda.”
