Slap in the Face for John Edwards As 2004 Presidential Nominee John Kerry Endorses Obama

January 10, 2008

In a twist like that from a Shakespeare play, former presidential nominee John Kerry plunged the knife into the back of his 2004 choice for vice president John Edwards and came out to endorse Barack Obama.

John Kerry made the announcement in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Charleston, South Carolina. He gave a speech saying “Barack Obama isn’t just going to break the mold, together, we are going to shatter it into a million pieces.” He talked a lot about change and how Obama would bring about change, but mentioned little about specific policies.

Meanwhile John Edwards released a statement stating “Our country and our Party are stronger because of John’s service, and I respect his decision. When we were running against each other and on the same ticket, John and I agreed on many issues. I continue to believe that this election is about the future, not the past, and that the country needs a President who will fight aggressively to end the status quo and change the Washington system and to give voice to all of those whose voices are ignored in the corridors of power.”

The endorsement is seen as probably having little effect on the overall election with Kerry being most remembered for his failure to take the the presidency away from George Bush.
