125px-Flag_of_Somalia.svgThe transitional federal government of Somalia (TFG) and the semi-autonomous regional state of Puntland have discussed ways to cooperate on security and the recruitment of the government’s new police forces.

During a lengthy meeting at the Puntland presidential house in the regional capital of Garowe, both sides vehemently welcomed the idea to establish full cooperation on security, the Somali state minister of Interior Abdirashid Mohamed Hiddig said.

“The main point of our mission to Puntland is to discuss how to strengthen cooperation on security between TFG and the Puntland State of Somalia,” the state minister told reporters in Garowe Friday.

Since TFG was formed in Nairobi late in 2004, thousands of Somali government forces were recruited in the Armo police training camp in the Bari region, Puntand.

Puntland and Somaliland are peaceful in comparison with the troubled south-central Somali regions where more than half a million people have been killed for the past 19 years.

Somalia has been without a functioning central government since the 1991 after the downfall of former military ruler late General Mohamed Siyad Barre.
