Somali pirates holding a Spanish fishing vessel since 2 October announced on Tuesday that they have released the ship after receiving $4 million as ransom, a Somali pirate said in Mogadishu.
“We received our $4 million demand and at the moment we are preparing to release the ship,” a pirate who shortened his name as Abdulle told APA by phone.
“We just need to check the money,” said the pirate.
The vessel was hijacked on 2 October off Somali coast.
Meanwhile, Somali pirates have seized another tanker ship with 28 North Korean on board on late Monday after they launched an attack off Seychelles coast, foreign naval forces in the Indian Ocean water said.
Virgin Islands owned tanker, MV Theresa VIII, was hijacked in the south Somalia Basin, northwest of Seychelles
The Somali pirates recently intensified their attacks on foreign ship, demanding ransoms.
The transitional federal government of Somalia has difficulties combating piracy but it recently trained some coast guards in its bid to uproot the pirates.
