125px-Flag_of_Somalia.svgSomalia’s Transitional Federal Government is warning of another wave of suicide attacks targeting the presidential palace and other key government installations, police spokesman revealed Monday.

Somali police spokesman Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Barise said in a press conference in Mogadishu on Monday that police had learned that Al Shabab militants, said to be Al Qaeda’s proxy in Somalia, are preparing systematic suicide attacks which will be carried out by men pretending to be members of the military.

“Our intelligence services confirmed to us that terrorists dressed in military uniforms are planning to target the presidential palace, the seaport and the airport, but we tell them with a loud voice that such conspiracy has failed because we have known how they are going to carry it out,” the police spokesman added.

“They want to destroy the Somali government and its people, so we are calling on our people to be vigilant of those cowardly attacks and the police is on high alert to intercept them,” Colonel Bairse stated.

Last week, a suicide bomber exploded himself at a graduation ceremony in Mogadishu killing at least 23 people including three government ministers, journalists, doctors and students. More than 50 others were wounded in the attack.

Later, the Somali government Information Minister Sheikh Dahir Mahmoud Guelleh said that a man dressed in a woman’s dress carried out the attack, accusing Al Shabab of being responsible, while an Al Shabab spokesman denied any involvement in the attack.

More than 19,000 civilians have been killed in Mogadishu alone since early 2007, while 1.5 million others fled from their homes in the restive capital Mogadishu since then.
