South African president Jacob Zuma has called on all African National Congress (ANC) members to combat xenophobic leanings in areas where they live.
Rumors of assaults against foreigners in the country spread like wild fire last week and authorities are blaming criminal elements for this.
Addressing reporters, ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said “it’s unimaginable that a few days after the World Cup there would be some people who are turning against their brothers and sisters.”
Concerns over service delivery also topped the order of business of the ANC executive committee gathering with discussion centering on how to translate the World Cup experience into a living for South Africans, Mthembu added.
He said that President Zuma called for the World Cup experience to be used to do “things better, smarter but also to be the pride that South Africa has been over this World Cup in terms of service delivery.”
On the discord the party is going through inside its youth league, the ANC said this is an internal issue and was going to be treated as such.
On Sunday, the ANC executive committee meeting will concentrate on the discussion papers prepared for the National General Council in September.
