A South African nurse, who had been jailed for three months on unknown charges in Saudi Arabia, is expected to return home next week. Dannelene Noach, 54, of Cape Town, was working at King Abdul Aziz Medical City Military Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, when she mysteriously “disappeared” in November 2007, her family said Tuesday.

It was later established that she had been detained by Saudi Arabian officials and denied access to legal counsel.

After months in prison and having only made contact with her family for the first time in January 2008, Noach was released last week and her family said the news came as “the greatest relief.”

“We’re just waiting for a flight number and time,” said Noach’s daughter, Lee- Ann Noach-Pienaar.

She confirmed Noach was in good health and spirit but said the family still knew nothing about the circumstances of her mother’s arrest.

The South African Department of Foreign Affairs has also confirmed knowledge of the incident and said it would initiate its own investigations into the reasons for Noach’s arrest in Saudi Arabia.
