One person has died of anthrax and nine cases have been confirmed in southern Kyrgyzstan, as of July 15, the Centre for Quarantine and Specially Dangerous Infections at the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health has told Ferghana.ru.
34 persons from the Jalalabat and Osh regions, who are suspected of contracting the disease, have been hospitalized.
All the infected patients contracted anthrax after eating contaminated meat that had not been inspected.
Currently, hotbeds of the disease are under quarantine and meat markets tightly controlled by special disease prevention groups. Also, cattle in the settlements where anthrax was found are being vaccinated.
The spread of the disease has been brought under control, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health states.
