The Spice Girls named a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 plane “Spice One” in their honor today at Los Angeles International Airport.
Over 33,000 fans worldwide helped Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria choose the name from a shortlist of three. Spice One was the runaway favorite from the outset and won with 56% of the vote, beating “Girl Power” and “Spice Girl”.
The Spice Girls, commenting from LA Airport, said “It’s fantastic to have a plane named in our honor. We wish everyone who travels onboard Spice One a great flight.”
Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, commented “Chosen by 33,000 people from around the world, Spice One could be the most popular plane name in our history! We are proud to be bringing the Spice Girls back in style for their home-coming tour, and back in time for Christmas, following their triumphant US shows.”
One lucky winner was flown out to Los Angeles to meet the Spice Girls. The winner was selected from the 33,000 people who helped to choose the name of the plane.
