Sri Lanka Wins Arab League Support for a Place on the U.N. Human Rights Council

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rohitha Bogollagama, stated that member states of the Arab League made a commitment to stand by Sri Lanka and support her candidacy to the United Nations Human Rights Council at the voting scheduled for May this year.
He had been assured of this by Abdul Gheit, Egyptian Foreign Minister.
The Minister further said that Sri Lanka’s submissions to join the organization of Oil Importing Countries as an observer will be given special consideration.
Amre Moussa,the Secretary General of the Arab League had assured the Foreign Minister that the Arab League could offer development assistance in identified areas if Sri Lanka provided a Development Plan.
Minister Bogollagama said that the Arab league admired sri Lanka as a country, and that Egypt had pledged to support Sri Lanka to combat Terrorism.
